LINDSAY, ON: On Friday, November 25, 2022, International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, Women’s Resources held a flag raising ceremony at City Hall in Lindsay as part of National Domestic Violence Awareness month.

At the flag raising ceremony, attended by Mayor Doug Elmslie, Deputy Mayor Tracy Richardson, local councillors, Kawartha Lakes Police Chief Mark Mitchell as well as staff, Board members and supporters, Women’s Resources launched their “Open The Door” Capital Campaign, aimed at raising funding to renovate their newly acquired building on Logie Street.

Prior to the 25th, more than 30% of the $500,000 goal had been raised through private donations, corporate donations, service clubs and grants. At the ceremony, Cable Cable presented a donation of $2,500 in support of the campaign along with other donors, including their sister company, Ruralwave, also presenting $2,500. Through the Rogers tv Kawartha-North Durham channel, they’re also producing a segment about Women’s Resources and the work they provide in the community, to be aired in December.

Attendees were encouraged to wear a purple scarf as a symbol of the courage it takes a woman to leave her abuser. However, the courage of the woman is not enough. In Ontario in 2021, 52 women and girls lost their lives to violence by a man known to them; it will take the support of an entire community to end violence against women. FENELON FALLS, ON: For the second year in a row, team members from Cable Cable and Ruralwave partnered to support Kawartha Lakes Food Source (KLFS) for Thanksgiving!

In 2022, the team put together 50 Thanksgiving meal kits, and this year that amount was DOUBLED for a total of 100 meal kits with all the fixings, plus a gift card for a fresh turkey, ham or main course of choice. KLFS will deliver the kits to partner food banks in the area so that more people all across the Kawartha Lakes region can enjoy this celebratory meal without financial strain.

With a greater need from the community, KLFS COULD USE YOUR HELP! If you’re in a position to give, please consider donating your time, money or groceries to this important organization within our community. Visit for details.
